Dental implants make a dramatic difference.
In this day of modern dentistry, dental implants are a fantastic alternative to bridges and dentures for people who are missing teeth. Dental implants are replacement tooth roots. These implants provide a strong foundation for permanent or removable replacement teeth that are designed to match your natural teeth.
Oxford's cosmetic dentist, Dr. Khoury, will provide you with an examination and consultation to determine if you have healthy gum tissue and strong jawbone ridges. You may be an ideal candidate for this life-changing technology. Dental implants look, act, and feel like your natural teeth and can restore your mouth to its original health and beauty.
There are several advantages to dental implants:
Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth
Improve your appearance by restoring your smile
They are designed to fuse with bone (permanent)
Improved speech (unlike dentures that can slip and cause slurring)
Eliminate the discomfort and inconvenience of removable dentures
Function like your own teeth, allowing you to eat with confidence
Improved self-esteem: helping you feel better about yourself
Don't require altering other teeth (like bridges do)
Improved oral hygiene: easy access between teeth
No need for messy adhesives to keep your dentures in place
Success rate of 98%
With proper care, implants can last a lifetime.
Customized Treatment Plan
After a consultation to determine if you are a candidate for dental implants, Dr. Khoury will develop an individualized treatment plan based on your dental profile.
Types of Dental Implants
Single Tooth Implants: In the case of a single missing tooth, one implant and a single crown will be used. This dental implant replaces both the lost natural tooth and its root.
Implant Supported Bridges: If you are missing several teeth, implant-supported bridges are used to replace them. Dental implants will replace both your lost natural teeth and some of the roots.
Implant Supported Dentures and Partial Dentures: If all of your teeth are missing, an implant-supported full bridge or full denture will be used to replace them. These dental implants will replace both your lost natural teeth and some of the roots.
The tooth root implant is a small post made of titanium. You will be referred to an oral surgeon who will place the root into the bone socket of the missing tooth. The healing process begins and the jawbone grows around the implanted metal post, anchoring it securely in the jaw. This takes between 6 and 12 weeks.
Once the implant has bonded to the jawbone, Dr. Khoury will attach a small connector post (an abutment) to the post to securely hold the new tooth. An impression of your teeth will be made and a model of your bite will be created. Your new tooth (teeth) will be created using this model. The final step is attaching the replacement tooth (crown), to the abutment.
Dr. Khoury will match the color of your new teeth to your existing teeth. Your new replacement teeth will look, feel and work just like your own natural teeth. To care for your new teeth, simply continue to include brushing and flossing into your daily routine, and don't miss your regularly scheduled dental check-ups.
